The past three years have been difficult ones in Haiti. President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in July, 2021. In August 2021 a 7.2 earthquake hit southern Haiti damaging or destroying 137,000 buildings, killing 2,200 people and injuring 12,700. Gangs have been causing civil unrest with kidnappings in certain sections of Haiti.
