The past six years have been difficult ones in Haiti. President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in July, 2021. In August, 2021 a 7.2 earthquake hit southern Haiti damaging or destroying 137,000 buildings, killing 2,200 people and injuring 12,700. Gangs have been running rampant throughout Port-au-Prince and 80% of the capital city is controlled by gangs. The international community is working to send in a police force to stop the violence and to provide security.

For the rest of Haiti, life has mostly been going on as in the past, despite food shortages and rising inflation.
