A Time to YIELD!

Share with your friends on Facebook

Driving down a country road, a man came to a very narrow bridge. In front of the bridge, a sign was posted: “YIELD.”

Seeing no oncoming cars, he continued across the bridge and to his destination. On the way back, he came to the same one-lane bridge, now from the other direction. To his surprise, he saw another YIELD sign posted. Curious, he thought, “I’m sure there was one posted on the other side.”

When he reached the other side of the bridge and looked back, sure enough, Yield signs had been placed at both ends of the bridge. Drivers from both directions were requested to give the right of way to someone else. It was a reasonable and gracious way of preventing a head-on collision.

When the Bible commands Christians to “be subject to one another” (Ephesians 5:21) it is simply a reasonable and gracious command to let the other person have the right of way and avoid interpersonal head-on collisions.

This is what we are seeing so much of today in our society, far beyond the highway – HEAD-ON COLLISIONS! We witness these head-on collisions on television, online and in-person. The result is that many, many people suffer the consequences of such terrible personal behavior.

HERE IS WHAT IS REALLY COOL IN OUR POST-PANDEMIC WORLD —

  1. Apologize when YOU are wrong.
  2. Show common courtesy as the new normal.
  3. Be nice since YOU can now smile at strangers.
  4. Pay attention to those talking to YOU.
  5. Show up on time.
  6. Listen without interrupting.
  7. Put YOUR smart phone away.
  8. Bring unmasked people together.
  9. Be resistant to any kind of lie.
  10. Be strong and lift other people up.
