Another Neighborhood!

Share with your friends on Facebook

A husband and a wife left a party one evening. Once in their car the two of them got into a humdinger of a fight.

They noticed that they were not driving through the best of neighborhoods. So they stopped long enough to lock their doors. Then they started arguing all over again. Finally the wife shouted: “Stop the car right now. Let me out!”

The husband pulled over. The wife unlocked her door and got out. Then she looked around and got back in the car again. Looking a bit sheepish, she said: “Take me to another neighborhood!”

When the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to ask her if she would be the mother of the Savior of the world, he may well have wondered if he was in the right neighborhood.

Once Mary said YES to Gabriel she wound up in other neighborhoods. First she went to see her cousin Elizabeth as we see in today’s Gospel for the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Luke 1: 39-45).

Then Mary traveled far from home to Bethlehem to give birth to Jesus. Mary, Joseph and her new-born child had to flee to another country as immigrants do to avoid the wrath of Herod. But with each journey and every new location, Mary literally took Jesus with her. Consider the journeys and the moves that you have made in your lifetime.

How did YOU take Jesus with YOU in each of these moves in YOUR lifetime?

How is Jesus alive and present where YOU are living today?
