Can’t vs. Can Do Attitudes!

Share with your friends on Facebook

I really try to listen to people. I constantly listen to people around my own age group on the phone or in person.

When I get off the phone or when I get in my car and drive home, internally or externally, I am shaking my head. Oh, I hear all about their issues and problems and especially all the problems they see in the world today. They are all staying very busy with one thing or another.

I sense that all the creative urges in their life are all in their past. Along with life itself, the greatest gift God gave each of us is to be creative, as God is ever creative.

I’ve tried to stay emotionally and spiritually alive, relevant, hopeful and in the mix, to help make this world a better place than when Planet Earth welcomed me aboard in 1943. In so many ways, especially as we get older, it comes down to a NO CAN DO ATTITUDE or a CAN DO ATTITUDE —

                NO CAN DO                                                 CAN DO

We’ve never done it before……………We have the opportunity to be the first
It’s too complicated…………………………Let’s look at it from a different angle
We don’t have the resources…………Necessity is the mother of invention
It will never work…………………………….We’ll give it a try
There’s not enough time…………………We’ll reevaluate some of our priorities
We already tried it……………………………We learned from our experience
There’s no way it will work……………We can MAKE it work
People are so busy with no time…..Think of the possibilities
It’s a waste of money……………………….The investment will be worth it
It’s not good enough………………………..There’s always room for improvement
It will never fly………………………………….We’ll never know until we try
It’s not going to get any better……..We’ll try to change it one more time
It can’t be done………………………………….It’ll be a challenge
No one communicates……………………..Let’s be sure WE communicate
I don’t have any idea………………………..I’ll come up with some possibilities
Let somebody else do it……………………I’m ready to try something new
We’re always changing direction……….Oftentimes change is good
It’s too radical a change………………….Let’s take a chance
Lots of people won’t accept it…………We’ll do better at educating them
It will be tough to make it happen…….Anything is possible
I can’t……………………………………………
……….I CAN

The ongoing and lingering COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on the lives of everyone. I observe people starting to come out of their cocoons. But too often I am seeing and hearing NO CAN DO Caterpillars crawling along. I’m looking for and hoping to see CAN DO BUTTERFLIES all around me!!  I am praying for the Jesus of Bethlehem and the Holy Spirit to enlighten and enflame us all so we can begin to fly!

Which of YOUR attitudes have been CAN DO or NO CAN DO attitudes?

WHEN YOU FACE SOMETHING THAT SEEMS OVERWHELMING, PUT IT IN GOD’S HANDS AND DECLARE, “GOD’S GOT THIS!”
