One evening a stay-at-home mom had to go to a three-hour PTA meeting at school. With Mother’s Day coming, her husband and her son and daughter decided to clean up the kitchen for her.
They wiped and polished all the counters. They washed all the dishes in the cabinets. They put the refrigerator in perfect order. They swept and washed the floor. Then they sat down and were very tired. They awaited mother’s return home and what she would say.
When the mother finally got home, she walked into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, poured herself some juice and went to the living room. She put on the TV and sat down. She did not say a word. Her husband and the two kids were miffed. She had not said a word about the clean kitchen.
The three of them went into the living room and stood looking at her. She glanced up at them and said: “What’s up?” Her husband said, “The kitchen.” “The kitchen, what?” she responded. “The kitchen, we cleaned the kitchen for you. It’s sparkling clean. Didn’t you notice?”
The mother replied, “Yes, I noticed. A thankless job, isn’t it!” So much of a mother’s life and job, day in and day out, is thankless, isn’t it? Sometimes, people don’t notice the things we do for them, until we stop doing them. We need to appreciate what we HAVE, before time makes us appreciate what we HAD.
