ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

Elvis Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42. Several months beforehand, Pastor Tony Barnett looked out at the congregation one Sunday morning. Who was sitting in his church but Elvis Presley. Elvis grew up a deeply religious young man. The first songs Elvis sang were Gospel hymns. Elvis was so moved by Pastor Barnett’s sermon that he talked to him after the service.

Elvis told him that he needed to repent of his sins and to change the way he had been living. With tears running down his face, Elvis asked Pastor Barnett, “What if I renounce the way I have been living and I find out that serving God won’t bring the joy to my heart that I am looking for?” With the life he was living, Elvis never lived long enough to find out the answer to his question.

How do you and I answer for ourselves the question Elvis Presley asked?

Do you and I believe that by renouncing
Our sins and serving God in our lives,
You and I will find the joy we are looking for?
