Empty Deception!

Share with your friends on Facebook

We’ve all bought into what is called empty deception. We’ve put money into a vending machine and pushed a button for a bag of potato chips that, judging from the appearance of the package, looked as if it were full of chips.

When the bag comes out and we open it, it turns out to be mainly full of air and contains only a few chips. If we had examined the bag closely before making the purchase, we would have seen it as an empty deception.

In the very Early Church the Colossians are an example of believers who were in danger of buying into an empty deception. The apostle Paul, using those two words, warned the people about this: “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world, rather than on Christ.”  Colossians 2:28.

Our Visual, Audio and Social Media are working 24/7 today to bring us tons of the empty deception St. Paul warns us about. If you find that the words don’t add up from what you are hearing, it’s because the truth wasn’t included in what you were led to believe.

Empty deception may give us what we want for the present, but it will always take it away in the end. That bag of chips looks good when it stares at us in the vending machine. When we buy it, we discover it was mostly air.

In a time of universal empty deception, as we are going through today, even telling the truth is a revolutionary act!
