I, along with most of the educators I talk to in Haiti, feel that the biggest problem in the schools in Haiti and the Dominican Republic – is that the teachers are poorly trained. So the students are not learning. The students are bored. They drop out of school and sell soda or gum on the street to make a dollar or two a day. Our primary work is to provide the right kind of teacher-training for today’s students. They need to learn critical-thinking and problem-solving. Sonide Simon, our full-time teacher-trainer, has begun the training. Many more teachers will be taught. They will need to be paid a stipend of $10.00 for a 3-hour class. Your help is needed. A donation of $50.00 will stipend a trained teacher for a week.
