Life Without Our Screens

Share with your friends on Facebook

One day I was typing away on my laptop and my screen went blank. Then a yellow bar appeared that said: LOW BATTERY RECHARGE IMMEDIATELY. Portable computers, smart phones and tablets need to be recharged. So do you and I need to be recharged SPIRITUALLY.

If you and I are going to reflect Jesus in our lives, we have to go to the Power Source. If we are going to BE Jesus to others, we’ve got to spend time WITH Jesus in prayer.

There is a wonderful saying that goes like this: I will reflect more OF Jesus when I reflect more ON Jesus. I try especially during Lent to spend five or ten minutes after I get up reflecting on a parable or a miracle of Jesus.

In today’s Gospel (Mark 9:2-10) Peter, James and John have a little time away with Jesus to be with him and to recharge themselves. Jesus gets so in touch with the Power Source, his Father in heaven, that his face shines like the sun and his clothes become white. The Father even speaks: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

When the Apostles looked up they saw no one but Jesus. You and I spend so much of our days looking at screens with talking heads. Isn’t it time we looked up from our screens and see only Jesus?

Take a break from your screen, read a passage from the Bible and spend a little time with Jesus.
