This week I will send out my 500th Daily Treat or Weekly Message as I have been doing every day for the past 16 months. If you have been reading these on Facebook or are not a subscriber, please go to Treatsforthesoul.org and subscribe. You will then receive it every day.
The PRIMARY GOAL of these Daily Treats and Weekly Messages is to foster and deepen a growing relationship with Jesus, as well as with God our Father and the Holy Spirit.
In my 51 years of ministry I have discovered that many people know a lot ABOUT Jesus and God, but they DON’T REALLY HAVE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS AND GOD. THEY DON’T REALLY KNOW JESUS AS THEIR FRIEND, THEIR SAVIOR AND THE PERSON THEY WILL SPEND ALL ETERNITY WITH.
Going to church every Sunday, reading the Bible, and saying prayers – does not automatically lead to a deep and a growing relationship with Jesus, God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Hopefully my Daily Treats and Weekly Messages have helped you to get much closer to the Lord with whom you will spend all eternity.
A SECONDARY GOAL of my Daily Treats and my Weekly Messages is to help readers and listeners of my podcasts determine right from wrong. As I listen to friends, family and those around me, I wonder whatever happened to the Golden Rule, the Ten Commandments and The Common Good.
I sense almost a complete erosion of honesty, integrity, decency, fairness and truthfulness not only in Washington, DC and in our society at large, but with the normal encounters I have with people around me.
My MORAL DNA that I have had since childhood says that WE ARE ALL GOD’S CHILDREN – ALL 7.5 BILLION OF US. I sometimes wonder if I am one of the few people left who really believe that. Sometimes I think that I was born in North America 400 years ago – when everyone here belonged to a tribe. I feel like I am surrounded by people who live in different tribes the way the Native Americans did.
I always welcome feedback: firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d love to hear what you think about a particular Daily Treat or Weekly Message. Hopefully many of them have deepened your relationship with Jesus, God our Father and the Holy Spirit.
I’d also like to hear about how a given story I share affects your attitude about people who watch a different TV channel or listen to a different radio station than you do and people of a different country, religion or skin color than yours. Do you feel that there are restrictions on who we can call God’s children?
I keep my smart phone handy and when I come upon a thought that I want to think about and pray over, I type it into my NOTES. Here are 4 thoughts I have typed in over the last month and have prayed over:
The person in front of you is A HUMAN BEING FIRST….AND AN OPINION SECOND.
Christianity has taught people WHAT to see…..and not HOW to see.
God may best be seen as REALITY……with a PERSONALITY.
Jesus is not loyal to TEAMS and COUNTRIES or BATTLES and GROUPS. Jesus is only loyal to SUFFERING.
(One to think about on the Eve of the Super Bowl).
