There was a monk who prayed his whole life that the Blessed Mother would come to visit him. After many years of prayer, Mary finally appeared to him in his cell.
The monk was in ecstasy. But in the midst of this mighty moment, the bell rang to feed the hungry. “Oh, Mother Mary,” he said, “I must leave. I am so sorry. Please stay.”
The monk went out and helped to feed the poor who had arrived at the monastery. He returned to his cell, miserable and disappointed. To his surprise, however, Mary was still there.
“You stayed!” he exclaimed.
“Yes,” she replied. “However, if you had stayed, I would have gone.”
Jesus preached more and taught more about helping the poor, the sick and the hungry than he did about heaven and hell. Shouldn’t that tell us something?
SOME PEOPLE ARE SO POOR…..ALL THEY HAVE IS MONEY!
If you feed the poor, you’re a saint.
If you ask why they’re poor, you’re a Communist.
— Dorothy Day
Do YOU ever ask why the poor are poor?
JESUS LOVES US THE WAY WE ARE, BUT TOO MUCH TO LEAVE US THAT WAY!
