Many years ago Helen Stummer made a wrong turn while driving in Newark, New Jersey. She found herself in a squalid section of Newark. She was deeply affected by the streets lined with broken bottles, broken windows and shattered dreams everywhere with memorials to those killed by gang violence.
But Helen kept coming back. She took pictures. She wrote down the peoples’ stories. She and others started bringing clothes, gifts, and food.
Helen became known as the guardian angel. She wound up publishing several books of stories and photos. Helen writes,
