What I Must Always Remember

Share with your friends on Facebook

I have known Fr. John Powell, S.J. since I was a teenager. His books have sold millions of copies and he gave talks all over the world for years before he passed away. John Powell said that prayer is opening ourselves up to God and listening to God.

He said that every time he gave a talk he prayed: “Dear Lord, make this an Act of Love, not a performance. This is not about me. This is about you and others.” I try to remember this and to say it every time before I give a talk.

But I also try to say this before I prepare a meal for some friends, help a friend move, or do something that I really don’t enjoy doing, which is quite often.

“Dear Lord, make this an Act of Love, not a performance.
This is not about me. This is about you and others.”
