A Friend Deep Inside of Me!

Share with your friends on Facebook

From the very first day he became President, March 4, 1861, Abraham Lincoln was under constant attack for almost everything he said and did. Some of the most vicious attacks he endured came from within his own party, the Republican Party.

Lincoln’s time in office, exactly 160 years ago, 1861-1865, was spent fighting the Civil War and trying to heal our nation. It is estimated that 620,00 people died as result of the Civil War or 2.5% of the population. This would be equal to 8 million lives lost today.

During these most turbulent of times, Lincoln knew that he would make errors as President, but he resolved to never compromise his integrity, no matter what.

So strong was his resolve to be Honest Abe that he once said, “I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me.”

Who is that one friend Abraham Lincoln is talking about?

What is Abraham Lincoln saying to you and me and to our nation today?

Please take a few moments today to compose a short email that YOU would send to Abraham Lincoln if he were alive today. I’d love to hear what YOU wrote!!

GOD WILL MAKE YOU INTO WHAT YOU CANNOT MAKE OF YOURSELF!
