Contemplate for a Moment!

Share with your friends on Facebook

We arrive in this universe through no choice of our own, at a time and a place not of our choosing.

For a few moments, like cosmic fireflies, we will travel with other humans, with our parents, with our sisters and brothers, with our children, with friends and enemies.

We will travel, too, with other life-forms, from bacteria to baboons, with rocks and oceans and auroras, with moons and meteors, planets and stars, with quarks and photons and supernovas and black holes, with slugs and smart phones, and lots and lots of empty space.

The cavalcade is rich, colorful, cacophonous, and mysterious, and though we humans will eventually leave it, the cavalcade will move on.

In the remote future, other travelers will join and leave the cavalcade. Eventually, though, the cavalcade will thin out.

Gazillions of years from today, it will fade away like a ghost at dawn, dissolving into the ocean of energy from which it first appeared.

What is this strange crowd we travel with? What is our place in the cavalcade? Where did it set out from, where is it heading, and how will it finally fade away?

The Introduction paragraph from Origin Story, a Big History of Everything by David Christian.

I find that at times I need to crawl out of my cocoon and get beyond the color of my skin, the country I live in and even Planet Earth itself. My cocoon, the color of my skin, the country I live in and Planet Earth itself will mean nothing to me in just a couple of years or less.

The words of David Christian help me to get out of my cocoon and think beyond myself. I need to reflect and meditate more and more on the work of the Creator of all that was, is and will come to be. What will it be like for me when I am with the God of All Creation? I hope I make it!!

On Christmas Day, 2021 the James Webb Space Telescope was put into orbit. It will allow us to observe some of the oldest, most distant events and objects in the universe. We will be able to see the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies. God our Creator’s masterpiece will unfold like never before.

Every time I hit a button and a biased or unbiased message is sent my way – I crawl back into my tiny cocoon. I fail to realize that Planet Earth which I am on is moving at 490,000 miles an hour through space….And my own life here on Planet Earth is moving even faster than that toward its final end.

We arrive in this universe through no choice of our own, at a time and a place not of our choosing. For a few moments, like cosmic fireflies, we will travel with other humans, with our parents, with our sisters and brothers, with our children, with friends and enemies.

And then…….?

WHEN YOU FULLY REALIZE THAT YOU MAY HAVE BREAKFAST ON EARTH AND HAVE YOUR SUPPER IN ETERNITY, YOUR TEMPTATIONS WILL LARGELY GO AWAY!
